Tinkercad uses a simplified constructive solid geometry method of constructing models. Concept Illustration of basic operations in Tinkercad. The program's features were merged into Tinkercad. In May, Autodesk discontinued its 123D Circuits (Circuits.io) "Electronics Lab". In March 2017, Autodesk recommended users of the soon-to-be-retired 123D Sculpt migrate to Tinkercad (or Maya LT). In May 2013, Autodesk announced at a Maker Faire that they would acquire Tinkercad. By 2012, over 100,000 3D designs had been published by users. In 2011, the website was launched as a web-based 3D modeling tool for WebGL-enabled browsers, and in 2012 the company moved its headquarters to San Francisco. Tinkercad was founded by former Google engineer Kai Backman and his cofounder Mikko Mononen, with a goal to make 3D modeling, especially the design of physical items, accessible to the general public, and allow users to publish their designs under a Creative Commons license. Since it became available in 2011 it has become a popular platform for creating models for 3D printing as well as an entry-level introduction to constructive solid geometry in schools. For those interested in experimenting, the development team has created a number of Instructables and a collection of help pages.Tinkercad is a free-of-charge, online 3D modeling program that runs in a web browser. The new program will be hosted on the Circuits.io site. The new program joins a growing collection of free Autodesk “123D” 3d tools that provide relatively simple, lightweight on ramps to 3D scanning, designing, and modeling. For those interested in creating private circuits, the cost ranges from $12 to $25 a month. The program also provides hooks that allow users to have the virtual boards professionally manufactured.ġ23D Circuits was created in collaboration with Circuits.io, a free Web-based circuit editor that was created by two developers based in Ghent, Belgium.ġ23D Circuits is free for open designs. The code can also be edited collaboratively (“a Google Doc for electronics” Autodesk claims). ![]() A virtual Arduino board can be added to the design, and the code can be edited in a browser window and simulated. The program allows users to create virtual breadboard-based designs to build and experiment with circuits.
